To specify which JDK to run NetBeans on. Use the -jdkhome option when starting NetBeans.
Is the root of the JDK installation. The NetBeans installer looks for suitable JDK installations available on user's system and allows you to select the one you want to run NetBeans on.
However, the setting may become obsolete when the user installs a new JDK later, or may be inconvenient if you want to run the IDE with another JDK. That's where the -jdkhome switch comes in handy. Note: If you want to set the option permanently, you can do so in the netbeans.conf file as described below. To make custom startup parameters permanent. If you want NetBeans to always start with specific options such as -userdir, -jdkhome, -fontsize, etc., so that you don't have to type them on the command line at every launch, the most convenient way is to add your custom options directly to the NetBeans configuration ( netbeans.conf) file. To do this, Control-click the NetBeans application icon and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. In the Finder window that appears, navigate to the Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc/ directory, Control-click netbeans.conf, choose Open With from the contextual menu, and select your preferred text editor.
Then add the custom parameters you wish to use and save your changes. The netbeans.conf file can include the following entries:. netbeansdefaultuserdir: the default location and name of the userdir.
Note that this entry is only valid in the global configuration file. It cannot be redefined in the local netbeans.conf file, because the launcher already needs to know the location of the userdir when the local netbeans.conf file is being processed. netbeansdefaultoptions: any parameters passed to NetBeans or the JVM such as memory configuration parameters, debugging options, -fontsize, various experimental switches, etc. netbeansjdkhome: the default location of the JDK to run NetBeans on. Note that this can be overridden with the -jdkhome switch. More Information For more information, visit.

Rvm is a heavyweight solution - which also does things for you that a lighter weight solution doesn't, which some people like. But if you want a lighter weight solution, I think chruby achieves what rbenv is trying to do, more successfully. I realize all these differences of opinion make it harder for the newbie trying to get started. I wish there was widespread consensus on exactly what to do (and it was the way I prefer!:) ), but that's not how ruby is right now, for better and worse.

Any errors that occur while you test the app with the built in browser are detected and it will direct you straight to the offending line of source code. Integrated RVM support means you can test your code with any version of Ruby on Rails.
RailSide features:. Navigation view: Organise files in logical MVC categories to speed up navigation. Single window: Editing, navigation, preview and execution can all occur within RailSide's window.
This works excellently with Lion's fullscreen mode. Global search: Search all files in your project whether they are ruby, javascript, css or html. Jump to errors: Any errors that occur during execution of your app in RailSide's built in console are detected, and RailSide will lead you to the error in the source code. Navigable by keyboard: There is no need to reach for a mouse when coding.
Git support: File statuses appear in in the navigation and browser views, and you can commit to a repository, or revert files to the last commit all within RailSide. RVM: Integrated support for the Ruby Version Manager. Choose the interpreter and gemset you wish to test with from within RailSide. Some features of RailSide, specifically the preview and console operations, require Ruby on Rails to be installed, and it is not included in the RailSide bundle. Ruby and the Ruby on Rails Web application framework may be downloaded free of charge at ruby-lang.org and rubyonrails.org respectively. Without Ruby on Rails installed, RailSide will operate only in Editor mode.
Similarly RVM support requires the RVM ruby gem, which can be installed by typing 'gem install rvm' on the command line.
